Football Jersey Day

January 17, 2025

We believe a complete and quality elementary education is one that educates the whole child, engaging them across a diverse range of subject areas and skill sets in a way that both fosters their success as students and enhances their development as people. Our curriculum keeps our students’ curious minds engaged and excited to come to school every day. Students receive approximately two hours of enrichment classes every day.

Elementary School Enrichments

French K-4

All students study French beginning in Kindergarten to learn how to communicate in the language both verbally and in writing, while developing cross-cultural skills and understanding. French gives our students the experience of learning a second (or third) language, as many are already being raised in Spanish- and Chinese-speaking homes.

Art K-4

We consider art an essential part of developing creativity and critical thinking skills. Our program includes the study of artists, genres, and styles ranging from Lower East Side street art to the masters in the Metropolitan Museum, as well as hands-on projects exploring color, composition, and technique.

Physical Education K-4

We include health classes and physical education to keep our students active and energized.

Technology K-4

We include technology classes to teach our students how to be safe on the internet.

Middle School Enrichments

World Languages 5-8

Through our World Language program our middle school students will have the opportunity to take both French and Spanish languages.

Physical Education & Health K 5-8

In middle school, our students will be provided with both physical education and comprehensive health education, which are paramount for fostering holistic development encompassing social, emotional, and academic dimensions.

Visual Arts 5-8

The Visual Arts program encourages students to express their creativity as they gain a foundation in traditional art forms and experiment with contemporary artistic practices. We teach our students to be confident, flexible, and responsible users of technology, both in and out of the classroom.

Music

Each student receives instruction from our highly trained music teachers every day from Kindergarten to 8th grade. We believe music is such an important part of our students’ education and development that we consider it a fifth core discipline.

In grades Kindergarten to 2nd grade students receive music instruction focused on music development, understanding, and chorus.

Beginning in grades 3rd and above students will participate in strings and orchestra. Students will study musical instruments to conduct biannual all-school concerts. By a students final year …

At MCS we believe that learning how to read and write music, improvise variations on a theme, and sing and play an instrument before a live audience sets our students apart—and directly impacts how well they perform in all other academic areas. They build communication and collaboration skills, self-discipline and self-esteem, and learn to conquer fears and take risks.

AI + Ethics Curriculum and Technology Lab

Manhattan Charter School is proud to be the first AI Middle School in New York City, paving the way for innovation in education. Our program is centered on equipping students with essential technology and development skills to prepare them for the future. Through our state-of-the-art AI Technology Lab, students engage in hands-on learning experiences, exploring cutting-edge concepts like machine learning, robotics, and data science.

Students in grades 5 through 8 will engage in an exploration of artificial intelligence within the framework of research and design. This interdisciplinary approach will not only foster an understanding of various communication mediums but also cultivate critical analysis skills essential for evaluating all forms of media sources.
