Effective Teaching
We believe effective, high quality teachers are the key to happy, high-achieving students. This core belief informs every decision we make and shapes every aspect of our organization.
We are committed to ensuring all students receive the customized approach and personal attention they need to learn. In place of a scripted instructional model, our exceptional teachers provide dynamic, creative, and highly effective instruction targeted to the needs of the students in their class. To allow for more differentiated small group instruction and structured classroom management, we pair each classroom teacher with a high caliber instructional assistant currently enrolled in a master’s degree program. Our Academic Intervention Services provide targeted instruction to address the needs of individual students who may be struggling with certain skills. Through the Children’s Institute’s Primary Project program, we use expressive play to reduce social, emotional, and school adjustment difficulties and enhance learning skills for our youngest students in need (K-1).
We invest heavily in hiring, training, and cultivating exceptional classroom teachers, in ways that simultaneously further their individual development, advance our larger institutional goals, and ultimately drive student performance. We build extensive professional development for teachers into the school calendar to help them continually improve their skills. We employ a staff of in-house content area specialists with deep experience and expertise in literacy, writing, and math. They provide daily one-on-one support, resources, and training, including classroom modeling, observation, and feedback. MCS also brings in academic consultants and sends teachers for specialized training and experiences to help our teachers hone their craft.
